Velma Mary Pettle Velma Mary Pettle, 86, Salina, died Friday, Sept. 19, 2003. Mrs. Pettle was born Velma Sams on May 31, 1917, in Culver. She was a retired elementary schoolteacher. She graduated from Culver High School and attended Emporia State University. Survivors include two brothers, Vaden Sams of Culver and Larry Sams of Salina; and three sisters, Margaret Vleck of San Diego, Lois Valle of Wayne, N.J., and Bethel Jilka of Hill City. A private inurnment service will be at a later date in Culver Union Cemetery. Carlson-Ford-Geisendorf Funeral Home & Crematory, 500 S. Ohio, Salina 67401, is handing arrangements.
